My Way to Train Budding Responsive Web Designers
Starting off as a small niche to a powerful force, the web design industry is exploding all over the planet. And with the massive use of the web in our daily lives, it’s no wonder that many people are considering to engage in the craft. Web designing can be simply defined as a practice of creating and innovating designs for a website. And site owners involved in business trades these days are in constant search for reputable and reliable web designers.
A good website design is considered as a crucial business key due to which the sales of the business are most likely to hike up. Creativity is something that has drastically turned web designing into a modernized art form. Now if you think with an imaginative and creative mind you can become a successful web designer then you are completely wrong! In addition to this, good analytical skill and logical ability is also a requirement.
I come across several students who aim to follow this career path to someday become a stalwart or create their own responsive web design company. After all, they are the ones who are most exposed to technology. It is very unfortunate that many of you aren’t able to learn both the artistic and mathematical sides of web designing due to its complexities. The previous year, I was granted the opportunity to teach web design and development. My Approach to Teaching Web Design

Gave the general Idea
Instead of chatting about complicated codes, I chose to give a general overview of the subject matter. Web designing is a very broad and complicated subject requires being simplified to get a big picture of what it is all about. So I decided to make them understand the basic and often used terminologies and other fundamental matters like acronyms. By doing this, I won’t have to spoon feed each and every single term to my students as they will acquire it on their own along the way.
Started off with a bit of history, today they are well aware of the developments in the web design of the day it was created up to now. Here I would suggest you not to linger too much because somehow it is the least relevant part. Remember that you are trying to help them answer the question “how” instead of the “what, when, who… etc.” Apart from this, keep them engaged in an active class discussion and ensure that every single one understands the concept thoroughly.
Practice Writing Simple Codes
As aforementioned, technology is not just about art and creativity it’s much more than what the typical designing demands. IT careers require both passion and skill in art and computers. And the mathematical side of web designing is most often the reason why many people find it so complicated. So my motto was not to shake students by complicated lectures about writing code. And not to make teaching, traumatizing by giving them too much information. As an instructor, you may not know how much knowledge you have about the matter until you see your students crease their foreheads with incomprehension while listening to you. What I mean is the things you may find easy to understand may not appear the same for your students as they aren’t much exposed to the technology as the same way you do.
Observe the Lesson’s Difficult Points
Being a web designing instructor, it is always advisable to keep a close eye on the difficult points. And make sure that when it comes to discussing complicated points, you are making explanations as simple and as understandable possible. Before jumping to the next lesson, I ensured that students have fully understood what a particular topic is all about. Think of methods which you can use to keep things as understandable as possible. For me they were:
- Allowing the students to work on the individual basis– Let student’s work and analyze things on their own. I aimed to pass all my knowledge as I know most of them tend to rely on discussions and on the fact that their instructor is typically laying to them all the needed answers. So, let them work on their own and discover things by themselves. Guide them on how to make the process instead of demonstrating things they need to know. Boost their problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Provide appropriate examples– By using references from the works of a well-founded responsive web design company, you can guide your students effectively. Professional firms tend to come up with high-quality types of designs that can become the standard of your students when they are working on their own website design.
- Monitor their performances– According to me, there are a lot of things such as logo designing to responsive web designing, 3D animation, a web designer needs to master to execute the task well. Henceforth, keeping track of students’ performance in all aspects of web designing is pretty much crucial. Other than this, don’t forget considering their hitches.
Last but certainly not the least, after the students wrapped up their work I invited a few clients to review their projects. In prior, I had already explained to them that the client will likely have a lot of changes, and they did. My goal was to prepare them to not be upset or take it personally.
